VOTER ID AND REALITY

The Department of Justice has been busily blocking various and sundry state voter ID laws recently, arguing that requiring people to show a state-approved photo ID in order to cast a vote will disenfranchise many voters - particularly in urban areas, where many citizens don't drive.  The NAACP have gone so far as to argue before the UN that voter ID laws are human rights violations, even though many poor and minority voters seem to want their votes protected by ID requirements.  DoJ chief Eric Holder maintains that voter ID laws suppress voter turnout.  Eh, not so much.

MOTORING OVER VOTERS

In the newest bombshell revelation in a series of them from J. Christian Adams, the former DOJ attorney asserts that the Department of Justice is not interested in prosecuting so-called 'motor voter' cases.  'Motor voter' laws were created in the 1990's to, among other things, ensure fair and legal elections, primarily through cleansing the voter rolls of people who have moved, died or are no longer eligible to vote for various reasons such as incarceration.

According to Adams, Deputy Assistant Attorney General Julie Fernandez, a political appointee who supervises the voting section at the DOJ, in a meeting scheduled for the entire voting section back in November of 2009, stated that there was no interest in enforcing section 8 of the law.  Section 8 is the deaths, duplicates and ineligibles provision of the law.  She said that it reduced voter turnout, prevented access to the ballot box, not increased it, and they had no interest in enforcing the law because of it.  Proof of his claims lies in a motor voter case that was brought by the Bush administration that was dismissed in Missouri in 2009 and a lack of motor votor prosecutions since then.  According to the Wall Street Journal:

The case made slow but steady progress through the courts for more than three years, amid little or no evidence of progress in cleaning up Missouri's voter rolls. Despite this, Obama Justice saw fit to dismiss the case in March 2009. Curiously, only a month earlier, Ms. Carnahan had announced her Senate candidacy. Missouri has a long and documented history of voter fraud in Democratic-leaning cities such as St. Louis and Kansas City. Ms. Carnahan may now stand to benefit from voter fraud facilitated by the improperly kept voter rolls that she herself allowed to continue.

This is a huge development.  If Adams' assertions are true, this could have major repercussions for the administration:

Mr. Adams' allegations would seem to call for the senior management of Justice to be compelled to testify under oath to U.S. Commission on Civil Rights. But Justice is making none of its officials available and is refusing to enforce subpoenas issued by the commission. The more this story develops, the more it appears Justice is engaged in a massive coverup of its politicization of voting rights cases.

No wonder they continue to push through their radical, unpopular agenda.  They are not constrained by the usual political fears for reelection.  These people are Chicago pols - Chicago, where the dead vote and no one ever moves away.  Toss in a few million illegal immigrants and a DOJ that refuses to enforce voting laws, and voila! you have a recipe for perpetual reelection.  This is an issue that should raise serious concerns, because this could signal the end of legitimate elections in this country.

The neo-pravda media will undoubtedly ignore this latest outrage, and the left is already busily attempting to discredit Adams, namely by saying he is politically motivated.  No doubt accusations of racism will soon follow.  Why change the pattern now?

The jury is still out on whether his allegations are true or not, but, considering these revelations came while he was under oath, there is some weight to them.  The ball is in DOJ's court to prove him wrong.  Accusing him of political motivations and attacking his record does not prove him wrong, it just changes the subject.  Considering their track record thus far on dismissing cases involving voter intimidation and voter fraud, there seems to be enough smoke to warrant an investigation into whether there is any fire.

The problem is, where do the American people turn for justice when the Justice Department is the problem?

UNIVERSAL VOTER REGISTRATION

God help us if John Fund is right.

According to Fund, the democrats, lead by Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Barney Frank (D-MA) will be proposing a 'fix' to our voter registration problems.  The 'fix' is called Universal Voter Registration.

Oh, it's a fix, all right.  As in 'the fix is in'.

For months now, many people have been wondering why the democrats are on a kamikazi mission to pass their radical agenda.  It just didn't make sense that so many would be willing to commit career suicide.

Here's how Fund says they are going to do it (via American Thinker):

In January, Chuck Schumer and Barney Frank will propose universal voter registration. What is universal voter registration? It means all of the state laws on elections will be overridden by a federal mandate. The feds will tell the states: 'take everyone on every list of welfare that you have, take everyone on every list of unemployed you have, take everyone on every list of property owners, take everyone on every list of driver's license holders and register them to vote regardless of whether they want to be ...'

How will they manage to sell this to the people, you ask?  Simple.  They will demonize ACORN and the voter registration fraud issues, using them as a foil to promote UVR.  They will argue that we need to get rid of those corrupt third party registrations.  After all, liberals are known to devour their own if politically necessary, so using ACORN as the villain is just par for the course.

And if the people don't buy it?  It doesn't matter, of course.  The Democratic Congress will ram this through against the protests of the American people, and they will do it quickly - time's a wastin', and November will be here sooner than you think.

The opportunity for fraud is astronomical with UVR.

First of all, the chances of multiple registrations are legion.  If you are a property owner, you are registered.  If you have a driver's license, you are registered.  If you are on welfare, or food stamps, or unemployment, you are registered seperately for each one.  If you own homes in multiple states (living in FL, this is a common occurrance with our 'snowbirds' who live here only in winter months), you will be registered in all states where you own property.  It's almost impossible to be only registered once!

And don't forget, it takes an eternity for government agencies to get someone off the rolls if they die, so there will be lots and lots of dead voters out there - a custom made scenario for this Chicago Machine run administration.

This really will make it entirely possible to vote early, vote often, and vote from the grave.

What it comes down to is the numbers.  The thing that got many of the states who are investigating ACORN for registration fraud interested was that the numbers just didn't match up.  There were so many districts that ended up with far more voters that residents that it was impossible to ignore.  UVR would take care of that.

As of 2008, about 71% (about 146 million out of 206 million) of eligible potential voters are registered.   Of those, about 90% actually voted.  UVR would enable unscrupulous factions to access upwards of 60-70 million unclaimed (but still registered) votes - plenty to swing any election on any level.  Absentee ballots make this very easy - no ballot box stuffing required, just anonymously pop them in the mail!  Artificially increasing the votes by, say, 15%  would be easy to explain - surely more people would vote if they were automatically registered, right?  That 15% translates to about 9 million votes - the margin by which Barack Obama won election in 2008.

Because many states (like Florida) have opened absentee ballots to all eligible voters, the only way to verify if a voter truly voted, and whom they voted for, would be by personal interviews.  I'm sure that process would make the hanging chad drama of 2000 seem pale in comparison.

Granted, Schumer and Frank have yet to announce any pending legislation.  Now that the concept is getting publicity, it will be interesting to see if they still propose it.  If they're going to do it, it needs to be done soon in order to effect the 2010 elections.  With any luck, this story will get legs and nip this nightmare in the bud.

If not, this scheme must not be allowed to be enacted.  In one fell swoop this legislation would take us from our signature free elections that are the envy of the world to something resembling the fiasco in Iran last year.

HOFFMAN AND PELOSI

Things are really heating up in chilly Upstate NY. The 23rd district, to be exact.

Apparently there are some serious...anomalies in the vote results. According to an email sent out by Doug Hoffman, the Conservative Party candidate:
  • his campaign received faulty information on election night,
  • inspectors read numbers incorrectly over the phone,
  • a loss in Jefferson county has turned into a 400+ lead,
  • not one but four districts incorrectly entered his vote total as zero.

So far, a 5,000+ 'win' for Owens has trimmed down to 3,000+, with 10,000 absentee ballots to go. The odds are good that Owens will still end up the victor, since Dede Scozzafava was still on the ballot at the time they went out. Of course ACORN and the unions seem to be involved, according to the Hoffman campaign. No concrete proof yet, though, so the jury's still out on that.

What surprises me is that no one seems to be talking about the legitimacy of Owen's vote for PelosiCare - perhaps because even without his vote it would still pass. But it certainly does illustrate the desperate measures Pelosi and co. are willing to sink to, all the way to allowing an uncertified civilian to vote for Congressional legislation.

The fact that the State Board of Elections Communications Director John Conklin sent a letter to the House Clerk explaining there was no winner yet in NY-23, no matter what the press are reporting is getting zero play. What's next, Nancy swearing in some buddies for the day to pass amnesty and 'working out the details' of the vote's legitimacy later? She seems to be playing politics pretty fast and loose lately, no?

Taken alone, this incident could be considered a minor glitch. But combined with the hyper-partisan strong-arm tactics, the manipulation of the press, the demonization of dissent, the KSM kangaroo court they are planning on setting up and the utter lack of concern - nay, disdain - for what the majority of America wants, this is starting to really look like a dictatorship. I'm just not sure who the dictator is - Obama or Pelosi.

Is there such a thing as a co-dictatorship?

BLUEPRINT TO A THEFT IN PROGRESS?

Well, today's the big day!

It's election day in NY, NJ and VA. The VA gubenatorial race is pretty well tied up for the Republican, who is polling up by double digits over his Democrat opponent. The races in NY and NJ, though, are going to be squeakers. According to some polls, Doug Hoffman, the Conservative Party candidate for NY-23 is ahead, but not by too much, so this election is definitely one to watch.

But the one we all need to keep our eyes on is the NJ gubernatorial race. Democrat Jon Corzine is the incumbent, and he is neck and neck in the polls with Chris Christie, the republican candidate. The spoiler might be the independent candidate, Chris Daggett, who may draw enough votes away from the republican to allow Corzine a victory. To help this scenario on, Corzine and the DNC has spent a large chunk of money on robocalls for the independent candidate. Apparently Corzine's campaign, even though it has been heavily backed by Barack Obama who has made numerous trips to the state in recent months to promote Corzine, is really, really desperate. The robocalling incident is incredibly underhanded and dirty, and hopefully word of this trick will reach the voting public and backlash on the democrats by ginning up sympathy for Christie.

But it gets worse.

The ACLU, in a state supreme court ruling that came out Oct. 17th, has successfully blocked exit polling by all the major news networks - ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, Fox and the Associated Press - a very important move that could have a major impact on Corzine's election. Why is this so important? I'll give you a one-word answer:

ACORN.

Yup, every body's favorite corrupt community organization is neck deep in the Corzine campaign. Corzine has told them to keep a low profile, though, so not much has been mentioned about their involvement. But make no mistake, they are involved.

As a matter of fact, it turns out the election is already under a cloud of suspicion due to the fact that over 3,000 absentee ballots signatures don't match up to the signatures on file. According to the Wall Street Journal:

"The state has received a flood of 180,000 absentee ballot requests. On some 3,000 forms the signature doesn't match the one on file with county clerks. Yet citing concerns that voters would be disenfranchised, Democratic Party lawyer Paul Josephson wrote New Jersey's secretary of state asking her "to instruct County Clerks not to deny applications on the basis of signature comparison alone." Mr. Josephson maintained that county clerks "may be overworked and are likely not trained in handwriting analysis" and insisted that voters with suspect applications should be allowed to cast provisional ballots. Those ballots, of course, would then provide a pool of votes that would be subject to litigation in any recount, with the occupant of New Jersey's highest office determined by Florida 2000-style scrutiny of ballot applications."

No exit polling + absentee ballots + ACORN = a seriously questionable election.

Things like this make it hard to believe we still live in America.

BTW, the independent candidate is quite liberal, so it would be an interesting little twist if it turns out he was backed or encouraged to run by Corzine's campaign or the DNC in a desperate effort to siphon off votes from Christie.

By hook or by crook, eh?

HIJINX IN UPSTATE NEW YORK

Troy NY is embroiled in a major voter fraud scandal. So far, 38 absentee ballots have been fraudulently cast and subsequently thrown out. Needless to say, accusations are flying. A special prosecutor, Trey Smith, has been appointed to investigate the allegations. There is little doubt that there will be arrests and prosecutions, and substantial jail time is involved.

At the center of this whirlwind is the Working Families Party. This is an ACORN affiliated group co-founded by Bertha Lewis, CEO of ACORN. One would think that this would indict the democrats, and there are many who believe 'rogue' democrats are at fault.

"As soon as I heard it -- I was mad, disappointed, frustrated," says Troy Democratic Chairman Frank LaPosta. He blames what he calls "a rogue group of Democrats," and says what happened "is beyond comprehension."

According to BigGovernment.com, "Because of the unique nature of New York State election law, candidates are allowed to be endorsed and appear on the voting machine ballot as the candidate of multiple parties, winning the cumulative total of all votes cast for that candidate on multiple party lines. Minor parties such as the Conservative, Liberal and Right to Life Party have played significant roles in New York politics."

But this little caveat is the opening needed for there to be some finger-pointing over who is to blame for the fraudulent votes. Bob Mirch, the majority leader of the Renssaeler County legislature, is a Republican leader who often runs candidates on the WFP line in order to work the system to garner additional votes for conservative candidates. This process is not unlawful, and is viewed as simply a legal way of gaming the system. But Republican/Conservative use of the WFP is why there are those who are placing the blame on Republicans, namely Rensselaer County Democratic Chairman Tom Wade and Troy City Council President Clem Campana:

"A former 18-year Democratic county elections commissioner himself, Wade puts the blame not on his party's political operatives, but on Mirch, and is calling for a countywide investigation of absentee ballots. He says he does not know if the allegations are true.
"I have known Bob Mirch long enough and well enough to know he would not pay private investigators to provide information that was not beneficial to his political agenda. This entire investigation is a smokescreen to cover a back-door pay raise" the legislature granted itself, he claimed. He calls the allegations "a diversion" created by Mirch for political reasons. But the accusations and affidavits are now the province of Trey Smith, a lawyer and former prosecutor, who has been appointed as a special prosecutor to investigate the scandal. Many of the people we talked to in Troy believe his findings will eventually lead to prosecutions."

It sounds like the usual liberal projection, though. Expect the Neo Pravda media to follow this line of thinking - at least until the investigation proves otherwise. Then you can expect them to not report it at all. Mirch's use of the WFP to level the political playing field, though necessary, has given his liberal opponents temporary cover.

By all accounts, the fraud would have tipped the election in favor of Democrats, so that in itself should tell you who is at fault, but this is a country where innocence is presumed, so a full investigation must be concluded first.

It will be interesting to see how Bertha Lewis tries to distance herself from this if it gains steam (I wonder which employee will be taking the fall), but, more importantly, how will the White House distance themselves? Patrick Gaspard, the White House's political director, was Bertha Lewis's right hand man during his time with ACORN, worked with ACORN in upstate NY to set up WFP and sat on the board with Bertha Lewis.

I'm sure there is no relation to Obama whatsoever. Hey, I managed to write that with a straight face - I must be getting really jaded....

Patrick Gaspard is a highly regarded member of the Obama administration (the Huffington Post calls him Obama's 'Glue Man') who has a long history with democrat politics and union organizations. Gaspard's involvement in SEIU, WFP and ACORN fly in the face of Obama's assertion that he's 'barely aware' of ACORN's numerous ethics and criminal issues. This man is Bertha Lewis' direct contact with the White House. She has Gaspard's ear and he, in turn, has Obama's. The American Spectator has a great piece on Gaspard and his relationship with both Lewis and Obama.

The voter fraud in Troy and the WFP's connections to ACORN could potentially sound the death knell for the unholy beast that is ACORN and all of it's many affiliations. But, just like in horror movies, sometimes the beast rises again and, considering the political clout backing the organization, that scenario isn't too far fetched.

It certainly bears watching.
